One of the most complicated aspects of planning a wedding is trying to make sure that you balance the budget. No one wants to overspend on their wedding. At the same time, this is one of the most important days of your life! You don’t want to look back and wish that you had treated yourselves to a little bit more with your wedding stationery. The truth is you never get to do this day again. You get one chance at this, and one chance only.
Many couples wonder exactly how much they should be spending on their wedding stationery. And in many ways, this is like asking ‘how long is a piece of string?’. There is no wrong or right answer, especially since wedding budgets vary so much. However, there are two general rules that couples are guided by, and they are simple to follow:
Spend 3.5% of your wedding budget on save the dates, invitations (including inserts), and mailing
The most important thing is that your guests know when your wedding is and the logistics surrounding the wedding day. That is why 3.5% of your entire wedding budget should be dedicated to ensuring that they can attend your special day. If you are considering sending out engagement announcements, rehearsal dinner invitations, shower and bachelorette invitations, etc, make sure you include them in this budget as well. Lastly, make sure that you include the cost of mailing out all of those invitations!
Spend 1.5% of your wedding budget on other stationery including programs, menu, table numbers, favors, etc
Although a smaller amount of your budget, and slightly less important, these stationery elements are what make your wedding unique, and all about you two. The programs, table numbers, favors, they are all little details that can brand your wedding and bring everything together. Spending 1.5% of your wedding budget on them is an excellent way to ensure that your wedding reflects who you both are.
