There are many things you have to think about when planning a wedding. It’s natural to start to wonder if there is anything that’s unnecessary, that can save you a little time and money! One question I’ve had several of my couples ask over the years is whether or not they need to send out save the dates for their wedding. After all, surely the invitation itself will be enough?
Well, often it is. But there are some situations which I recommend sending out save the dates, even if it feels like an extra hassle. These situations are when:
You are having several out of town guests
When people need to travel, book accommodation, and ensure that they are going to be free that day, it makes your out of town guests’ lives so much easier to have advance warning of your wedding. The location and logistics surrounding your big day will help them find somewhere to stay and plan accordingly
You are having a destination wedding
This is even more true when you’re having a destination wedding. Destination weddings could involve your guests requiring passports, foreign currency, and potentially babysitters
You want to give a keepsake
It’s always lovely for your friends and family to have something to remember your wedding by. Creating a save the date magnet or postcard, for example, gives them something cute to keep forever.
You have a wedding website
Last but by no means least, if you have a wedding website. This may include absolutely everything that your guests need (maps, links to wedding gift registry, online RSVP), etc. You need to make sure that they have access to that website sooner rather than later. What better way to give it to them than on a photo save the date?
